Same Love

Normally, I do not like rap- of any sort. It just doesn't appeal to my musical tastes. However, any song with a strong social message is a great song in my books. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' "Same Love" is well-written and catchy enough to get the word out there. In the beginning of the video, it shows a baby being born to a mixed couple. This generation has really changed, for the most part, the social acceptance of interracial couples and children. I really enjoy how they took this major social milestone and incorporated it into the video. It demonstrates the last widespread social movement that took place and how we are slowly moving forward. In addition, they do a great job if opening up the music video to a baby being born representing that he was born the way he is. Throughout the video, it shows the character growing up and dealing with disapproval from his father. Despite the disapproval, him and his boyfriend get married in the end to show what the current movement is pushing for- same-sex marriage. To end the video, it shows the couple together in the hospital while the main character lays very sick holding his husband's hand. I feel that the way they told a story from beginning to end made the song even more memorable as a story. This video is definitely one of my favorite videos, because it, again, has a great social message.
